The exhibition POST-DATA proposes a new look at the artistic research and creation of a number of professors from the School of Art of the Pontificia Universidad de Chile (UC) who reflect on creative processes, the development of works over time and references to further an understanding of decisions made in constructing their works. These reflections range from academic formalities to biographical allusions. Together, they form a frame of reference that brings us closer to the works with a different perspective in relation to what they originally suggested. These temporal and spatial shifts help to define the temporary and potentially transformable nature of the works. Chilean art has typically featured an abundance of stories about geographic distance, social relations on all levels and especially a heightened political awareness. Each of these creative engines can be found in Post-Data to varying degrees and through a variety of ways of exploring knowledge construction anchored in the visual experience—or naked-eye, “retinal” knowledge—since it is the value of the images and the changes they have undergone over time that truly shape the content of this exhibition.  - Mario Navarro

Post-Data is supported by the Embassy of Chile in proud recognition of Chile’s Bicentennial Celebrations.

New Consul General of Chile in Vancouver

The Embassy of Chile in Canada is pleased to announce the designation of Mrs. Maria Eliana Cuevas as Ambassador of Chile in Rumania. Along with congratulating the new Ambassador, this mission takes this opportunity to highlight the shining work carried out by Mrs. Cuevas at the Consulate General of Chile in Vancouver during last the five years.

Also, this Embassy informs that, at the General Consulate in Vancouver, Minister Consellor Ricardo Plaza, will begin his duties on September 1st 2010 as Consul General. Mr. Plaza is a career diplomat, a lawyer, and has acted as Consul in Rosario, Argentina, in Puerto Rico, in Italy, and in Toronto, Canada. He also worked at the Mission of Chile in Geneva. In the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he acted as Head of Cabinet of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Head of Cabinet of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs RREE and Head of Cabinet of the Director General of Foreign Policy, to name a few.

Thanks

The Embassy of Chile, on behalf of the government of Chile and especially on behalf of the Chilean people, greatly appreciates and thanks the contributions made by Canadians and Chileans to the “Earthquake Relief Fund” at Scotiabank.

Along with informing of the closure of this account, we are pleased to inform that, during the three months it was open, more than US$ 80,000.00 were gathered. This money was sent last week to Chile, to the National Office of Emergency and Information of the Ministry of the Interior. This organization will coordinate the use of this resource, so that it contributes to improve the conditions of the Chileans affected by the earthquake.

The emergency has now passed. However, there is still much to do and to rebuild. In this year of the Bicentennial, we are left with the satisfaction to have seen the bows of friendship between Chile and Canada deepened, which allows us to continue projecting this bilateral relation with optimism and energy.

To all Canadians and Chileans, again, our most sincere gratitude for being present during those difficult moments.

On the occasion, the Defence Attaché of Chile in Canada, Captain (N) Mauricio Velasquez gave a speech describing the events that took place on that historic date, he also offered a gift to the Canadian Navy to commemorate its 100 year anniversary which Rear-Admiral N.S. Greenwood received. The gifts consisted of six pictures of ships that were transferred from the Canadian Navy to the Chilean Navy in 1946, at the end of Word War II.
